Semiotics: theory of signs

-comes from Greek word Semeiotikos, meaning, "an interpreter of signs"

*Signing underlies all forms of communication, 

can mean something other than itself, & are dependent on context.

(Include gestures, facial expressions, speech disorders, slogans, graffiti, food, rituals, morse code, commercials, ect.)

Questions: 

In the portrait of Adam and Eve, what is Satin depicted as and why is the apple an automatic connection even though it wasn't identified in the Bible? 

Synecdoche is most similar to what Gestalt principle and why? 

Answers:

Satin is depicted as a serpent and the apple was chosen because it has been well-established in the past the fruit of choice for this situation.

Synecdoche is most like closure because closure uses incomplete space to infer a shape.  Your mind automatically completes the shape using the parts shown. This is equivalent to the meaning of synecdoche and it refers to a part of a whole, or a specific of a larger group.
