Born: Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, 1961
-immigrated to U.S. in 1968
Attended University of California in Berkley
-studied architecture, photography and computer programming
-graduated with degree in Graphic Communications in 1984.
Co-founded the font, Emigre, with her
husband Rudy VanderLans.
Emigre: -used public domain software to create bit-map fonts
-instead of typographic forms created from calligraphy
-reflected evolution of digital technology
-question conventional ideas of legibility and layout
-"controversial battle of American design scheme"
Started Emigre magazine in 1984.
-incorporated Licko's digital typeface designs created with the first generation of Mac computers!
-led to manufacture of Emigre fonts
